What are disc brakes?
The disc brake is composed of a brake disc connected to the wheel and a brake caliper on the edge of the disc. The braking principle is that the high-pressure brake oil pushes the brake block to clamp the brake disc to produce a braking effect.
Disc brake structure: The disc brake disc pushes the brake caliper through the hydraulic pump and grasps the brake disc. To improve the braking force, according to the F=P*S formula, the method of increasing the braking area is generally adopted to increase the braking contact surface. It is also possible to lengthen the brake lever. There are also ways to increase the pressure by amplifying the pressure of the hydraulic pump and increasing the braking torque by increasing the diameter of the brake disc to increase the braking force.
Advantages and disadvantages of disc brakes:
Advantages: External type, good heat dissipation, linear braking, easy control, and frequent braking.
Disadvantages: Compared with the friction force of the hub brake, the disc brake has a small braking force and a relatively high cost.
Now on the market, you can see that there are many perforated designs on the brake disc, the purpose is to increase heat dissipation and optimize heat attenuation.
Disc brake common faults:
1.Braking problems caused by the quality of the upper pump.
Due to the intensifying price war in the industry, some manufacturers made the piston of the upper pump plastic to reduce the cost, and the quality of the oil seal is also average. An upper pump of this quality will soon leak oil from the oil seal or have no pressure. Usually just replacing the pump will solve it.
2.Oil quality affects disc brakes.
If the disc brake has just been repaired and soon there is no pressure, let the air out to return to normal, but the same problem occurs after a night, it is very likely that there is a problem with the disc brake fluid. This is because the poor quality disc brake oil will absorb water in the air during the braking time, and the water and the disc brake oil will chemically react to generate a large amount of gas, which is the main reason for the lack of pressure on the brakes.
3.The rear wheel is locked.
In this case, you need to open the lower pump to exhaust the air and check the outflow of oil. If the oil sprays out after opening, and the rear wheel becomes lighter at the same time, it means that it is a pressure problem, and the fault may occur in the upper pump and oil pipe. If the oil slowly flows out after opening, and the rear wheel is still very heavy, it means that it is a mechanical problem with the lower pump.
4.The poor oil pipe affects the brakes.
The poor oil pipe will be affected by the temperature, and it will expand and contract with heat; if the temperature rises at noon, the oil pipe will expand, and the oil of the oiler and disc brake will flow down, resulting in no pressure. At this time, the maintenance and refueling will return to normal. But at night, the temperature drops, the tubing shrinks, and the disc brake oil squeeze into the oil pot. The oil just added will overfill the oil pot and cause the rear wheel to lock up.
Disc brake maintenance:
1.Check whether the brake fluid leaks. If it leaks, please wipe the leaked brake fluid and go to the repair shop to find out the cause and repair it.
2.Check whether there is sediment at the brake caliper. If there is, it should be cleaned to prevent the sediment from causing the brake cylinder and friction pads not to return, thereby affecting the braking effect and the life of the braking system.
3.Change brake fluid regularly.
Regularly go to the maintenance station to check to determine whether the brake fluid level is lower than the minimum mark, and check the wear conditions of the friction pads and brake discs.
